In response to the growing violence in our society, Auburn Youth & Family Services has initiated a program based on violence prevention. Peaceful Pals serves up to 15 children, ages 6-10, during the school year. Some of the themes included in the program are appreciation of diversity, conflict resolution, anger management, and positive self-esteem. The meetings take place at 21 Pheasant Court, and include dinner, games, activities, music and crafts. In 2004, we added a parent component to this extremely popular program. Parents and children have dinner together, then separate and go to their respective groups. The parent group curriculum reflects the children’s, so that families can then go home and reinforce these activities. This exciting program has been made possible through a grant received through the 200 Foundation.
